FAQ - Collecting with Barbara

Collecting art is both practical and personal. Here you’ll find answers to common questions about my process, offerings, and collector experience. My hope is that this guide helps you feel confident and connected as you explore my bold, soulful abstracts.”

Commissions & Originals

Do you take commissions?
I am very selective when it comes to commissions. My best work happens when there’s trust in my creative process and freedom to let the colors, textures, and energy flow naturally. If you feel a strong connection to my abstracts and are open to that collaborative spirit, we can explore a custom piece together.

How do I commission a custom abstract painting?
Email me at info@barbaramosher.com with your preferred size, palette, and timeline. I’ll reply with pricing, a written brief, and a proposed schedule. A deposit secures your commission, and I’ll send updates as the piece evolves.

What sizes work best for above a sofa, bed, or mantle?
As a guideline, artwork should span about two-thirds the width of the furniture below it. For a standard sofa, that’s usually 50–70 inches wide. I’ll help you select the right scale for your space.

What makes an original painting unique?
Each original is one-of-a-kind, layered with texture, detail, and energy that can’t be duplicated in prints. Originals also hold the greatest long-term value for collectors.

What is it like to work with you as a collector?
Collecting directly from me is a personal and elevated experience. I love learning about the spaces my work will live in, the colors and energy you’re drawn to, and what inspires you. Many of my collectors enjoy private previews, behind-the-scenes stories, and first access to new work through my Collector’s Circle. Without gallery walls between us, I can offer a more intimate connection — making sure each piece truly resonates before it finds its home.

Where can I see your work in person?
My work has been shown in galleries, but most often collectors experience it directly through me. Originals are available through private viewings, by appointment at my Whidbey Island studio, or through special events and exhibitions. Many of my collectors first discover my work online, then connect with me personally to find the perfect piece.

Why do you currently prefer not to work with galleries?
I’ve enjoyed being represented by galleries in the past, and I value those experiences. At this stage in my career, I prefer working directly with collectors. It allows me to build more personal relationships, share the stories behind my work, and ensure each piece finds the right home. That said, if the right gallery partnership aligned with my vision and values, I would be open to exploring it.

Prints & Reproductions

Select works are available as archival prints. This allows collectors and designers to bring the energy of my abstracts into their spaces at different scales and price points. Originals, however, remain the heart of my practice.

What is the difference between originals and giclée prints?
Originals are hand-painted, textured works. Giclée prints are high-quality reproductions on archival paper or canvas, color-true and long-lasting. They offer an affordable entry point for collectors.

Do you sign and number your prints?
Yes, each limited edition giclée print is signed, numbered, and comes with a certificate of authenticity.

Can prints be framed?
Absolutely. I can ship them rolled or in a padded envelope.  For custom framing, I’ll recommend trusted framers or coordinate upon request.

Collectors, Designers & Trade

Do you work with interior designers and architects?
Yes. I regularly collaborate with designers to create custom works or place existing pieces in residential and commercial projects. Trade discounts are available.

Can you match a palette to my room or fabric sample?
Yes, I often design around photos or swatches to create a painting that harmonizes with a specific environment.

Do you offer payment plans?
Yes, flexible payment arrangements can be discussed to make collecting easier.

Are your artworks an investment?
While art value always fluctuates, original works by established artists often appreciate over time. Many collectors purchase both for personal enjoyment and as a legacy investment.

Do you teach or offer classes?
Yes. Through my SoulFire Creative brand,(SoulFireCreative.net) I offer classes and workshops designed to ignite creativity and guide others on their own artistic journeys. These range from short creative sparks to deeper programs inspired by The Artist’s Way.  You may find some mini-courses (creative sparks)here on www.Barbaramosher.com

Do you still paint florals and landscapes?

I’ve painted abstract florals and landscapes in the past, and they hold a special place in my heart (and in the hearts of many collectors!). At this time, my focus is on bold, soulful abstracts — work that feels closest to my true voice and vision. The florals and landscapes may return as a limited series or special project in the future, but for now I’m following the fire of color and abstraction that inspires me most.
